Sarah Ward and Bec Matthews are a multi-award winning queer creative couple that collaborate, perform and live together. A snapshot of their excessively busy pre-pandemic lifestyle contrasts the following scenes in which we witness a day in the life of their adaptation to a new found existence amid an arts industry in turmoil. An intimate portrait from wake til sleep we see how they have transitioned from adult theatre performers to online children and family performers. Their working and romantic relationship blends and merges, when weekends, mealtimes and bedtimes become places for brainstorming sessions. Surviving cancer and living with chronic anxiety and a borderline personality disorder, Sarah is creating a show where she plays herself for the first time and explores the idea that she doesn’t really know who that is. Sarah and Bec’s mental health has been up and down throughout the pandemic, though their love and support for each other has seen them through these lockdowns with as much grace as possible. Apart from that one time when they left cat vomit on the floor for a whole week.

In a television first, SBS and Blackfella Films’ new three-part documentary series Meet the Neighbours follows eight households from diverse cultural backgrounds as they leave the city behind and seek to live and work in the small town of Maryborough, Victoria, for three months. Premieres Wednesday 1 November on SBS On Demand and airs weekly at 7:30pm on SBS.

Presented by Myf Warhurst, this bold social experiment provides insight into the challenges faced by regional Australia, including a lack of affordable housing, skilled workers shortages, and under-investment in crucial services and infrastructure. Australian/Sicilian artist Paul Bottaro explores his families traditions, obsessions and rituals with death from Melbourne to Sicily and Egypt. He discover’s how his family history has shaped him as a person and an artist. From his childhood skinning animals as a family in the controversial first taxidermy shop in Melbourne. To his father’s  problematic obsession with ancient Egyptian artefacts that found him locked up in an Egyptian prison for trying smuggle 2300-year-old animal mummies out of the country. We delve into the rich history of the Sicilian tradition of embalming their loved ones and juxtapose that with the disconnected approach that the western world seems to have with death.
